COMING SOON...ALBUM #2!
ALL STEPHEN SONDHEIM,
ALL NEW JAZZ ARRANGEMENTS
SWING A SONG OF SONDHEIM is almost here! What's SWING A SONG OF SONDHEIM you ask?? Good question! It's an all-Stephen Sondheim album (lyrics/lyrics and music) set to all-new jazz arrangements! Having sung everything from the Beatles to Beethoven in traditional interpretations and original arrangements, I yearned to create something brand new. After talking a bit with my fantastic musical director/jazz arranger Nicki Denner last July, we both discovered out mutual love for Stephen Sondheim's work. I had been planning an all-Sondheim album with traditional arrangements but then after looking around a bit, I noticed that noone thusfar had recorded jazz arrangements of Mr. Sondheim's work. So Nicki and I decided to combine her expertise in jazz and my storytelling with Mr. Sondheim's great songs. Luckily these new arrangements just seemed to flow effortlessly. Three live concerts, a year and a half of tweaking...adding a trombone and super-talented vocal arranger Santino DeAngelo for the 4 duet mashups and voila': SWING A SONG OF SONDHEIM was born!
The album will feature a fantastic jazz quintet with Willie Martinez on drums, Gary Wang on bass, Mark Miller on trombone, Anton Denner on woodwinds and Nicki Denner at the keys. I'll be featured on 8 solos and 4 duet mashups with Rachel York and Norm Lewis. Keep an eye out for CD release concerts at Birdland and 54 Below when the album drops sometime in the fall of 2018! See you after the show...

“Like his predecessors, Zero Mostel, Chaim Topol, or Harvey Fierstein, StarStruck's TEVYE(Fiddler on the Roof), Doug Jabara, is equally stage-commanding — adding humor and heart to this dynamic cast.”
TCPalm.com February 2017
“Doug Jabara as Tevye was a home run. I loved him immediately and it was simple to fall into his story and feel his hardship. I went from “maybe I was going to be partially interested” to being completely swept into his story within minutes. He was the perfect choice and absolutely convincing as the struggling father and milk man.”
Stuart.Macaronikid.com February 2017
"Doug Jabara's Franklin(1776) is some of his best work, blending song and dialogue in a seamless performance of the quote-spouting wise old man."
Artsimpulse July 2015
“Jabara closed the first act (Jacques Brel is Alive, Well and Living in Paris) with an intense reading of “Amsterdam,” a song about the desperate fury of debauchery. You could see the spittle flying.”
The Boston Globe June 2014
“Doug Jabara presented an honest man, making Javert(Les Miserables) much more likable than I’ve seen him in past productions.”
BroadwayWorld.com August 2013
“Doug Jabara (as Jud in Oklahoma!) has a marvelous, dark bass and brings out the bitter, ominous dissonances in “Lonely Room.’’
Boston Globe July 2011
“In the central role of the Baker(Into the Woods), Doug Jabara is affecting and strong. His singing is imbued with a deep sense of character and his solid acting technique keeps us riveted to the story of the childless man’s quest for the magic tokens that will make the witch lift her curse from his home.”
The Boston Globe June 2010
“Jabara sings beautifully and convincingly shows the changes in the Baker(Into the Woods) as he traverses his story’s arc.”
BroadwayWorld.com June 2010
“Doug Jabara is a delightfully exasperated Sergeant (Funny Face) and does a nice job with the new but abbreviated song, Dance Alone With You.”
TheaterScene.net October 2016
“Yesterday's presentation of Sweeney Todd was so compelling. What a treat. The Mrs. Lovett, Shana Dirik, and Sweeney, Doug Jabara, were superb and Fourth Avenue Productions did such a lovely job.”
The Raving Queen May 2014
“Doug Jabara gives one of the best performances of the year (as Dan in Next to Normal) as her desperate, perplexed husband. Jabara could give a master class on stillness: When his heart is completely broken, he just sits without moving. And we feel the pain.”
Boston Arts Review January 2014
“Douglas Jabara may have had the most difficult assignment of the evening in that he had to deliver his own performance of a song (Imagine by John Lennon) just about everyone has heard dozens of times in recordings. Mr. Jabara was successful, I heard it last night as if it were the first time.”
Anonymous attendee in New York City September 2010
"Among those who stand out and are able to connect with the audience in a way that makes them unforgettable is Doug Jabara, who plays Old Deuteronomy(Cats). He has one of the strongest voices in the cast and is very impressive."
